🔲 Start with a clean grid

Set Lines per direction, Spacing surprise, and Grid density, then press Generate. The system drops straight lines to form rectangles automatically—no drawing needed.

🎨 Add or remove color

Toggle Color fills to decide whether rectangles are painted. Use Recolor to refresh the Mondrian palette on the same grid while keeping most areas white and avoiding matching neighbors.

🔄 Regenerate anytime

Press Generate again to rebuild both lines and colors, or Download to save the current SVG. Experiment by adjusting one control at a time to see how spacing, density, and color choices change the composition.

📐 Why grids first?

Restricting lines to vertical and horizontal directions keeps the activity approachable. It highlights balance, spacing, and proportion without requiring drawing skill.

🎯 Limited palette, clearer choices

Using only red, blue, yellow, white, and black mirrors Mondrian’s language and shows how few colors can create many moods. Leaving most rectangles white keeps contrast strong and clutter low.
